‏Gossip Girl (2007 Р2012) is a show about a group of privileged teenagers who live on the upper east side of New York. The show begins with Serena coming back to the city after a year away, and introduces the core group of Serena, Blair, Nate, and Chuck to Dan and Jenny, the ‘outsiders’ from Brooklyn. Gossip Girl is six seasons long and spans the group from school to university and onto their fledgling careers.
‏The central friendship on the show is between Blair and Serena, and while they have some serious ups and downs including Serena sleeping with Blair’s boyfriend before the showbox movie starts, the show focuses on the fact that these are flawed individuals who also have a great capacity for forgiveness. Serena makes this mistake before the show begins, and her return to New York coincides with her decision to become a better person, which Blair supports after forgiving her for her betrayal.
‏There are many times on the show when Blair and Serena show how much they care for each other, and how much support they provide for each other in hard times. For example reference is made to when Blair suffered bulimia (before the show began) and how Serena helped her through it and how Blair would always provide support when Serena’s mum would disappear with a new husband or boyfriend and leave her and her brother alone. They stuck by each other through the good times and the bad times, and we watch them go from spoiled teenagers to mature adults by the end of the show, all the while remaining true friends.
