Art of Girlhood investigates the intangible, ephemeral and material culture of girlhood, like songs, games, clothes, toys, etc. using photographs, audio and video.
Upcoming exhibitions include, 'Hina Matsuri: Girl’s Day in Japan’, ‘Traditions in Transition: Girlhood of the South Pacific Diaspora’ and ‘More than Pretty: Girls and Body Decoration’.
Girl Museum would like to thank the Asia New Zealand Foundation for their generous support of the research trip to Japan in February for Hina Matsuri/Girls’ Day.
We would also like to thank the New Zealand Japan Exchange Program (NZJEP) for their financial assistance in producing the ‘Hina Matsuri: Celebrating Girls’ Day in Japan’ exhibition opening at Girl Museum on September 5th .
For those of you in New Zealand, there will be two physical exhibitions. The first will be at the Japan Festival of Wellington on September 5th at the Town Hall from 1pm to 7pm. The Taste of Japan festival will be in Auckland on September 25th at the Logan Campbell Centre from 10am to 6pm. Both events are free.
Hope to see you there!
