At seven years old, ‘Let’s Get the Party Started’ was one of the top songs on the radio and a new artist named Pink was just coming on to the scene. I immediately fell in love with Pink’s style and powerful lyrics. Over the last 25 years, it has been her outspoken activism to fight against injustice that has made me continue to love who she is as a person, along with her music. Most recently, she wrote the song Irrelevant in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade that highlighted the issues that many women and young girls face in the United States by no longer having the constitutional right to an abortion.
Over the years, Pink has released nine studio albums. Despite all the new albums, Missundaztood is still my favorite. I still love “Let’s Get the Party Started,” but I think my favorite song off the album is “Don’t Let Me Get Me.” The song’s overall message about how you are your own worst bully is something that I understood as a seven-year-old who wanted to fit in. This song has continued to resonate with me as I fight my own personal demons and stay true to who I am as a person. I finally saw her in concert last summer and it was one of the best moments of my life! I cannot wait to get to see her again!
