On January 7, 2026, Renée Good was murdered in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the Turbulent States of America by an immigration officer. Good embodied much that could be held up as both heroic and tragic. As a mother of three, an award-winning poet and described by her family as kind, generous, loving, and forgiving, Good has become a heroine, symbolic of the everyday people standing up for their neighbors in the face of brutal, authoritarian actions by the US Department of Homeland Security. She did what she could, within the law, and was punished for it.

There are many, many other women throughout American history who have stood up to authorities and paid the ultimate price for it. Good will no doubt be a heroine for children in the future who learn about this time in American history and look for the helpers, those who did not comply.
