Kia ora!

My name is Sarah. I’m from New Zealand and currently living in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. I grew up in a small town in the South Island called Blenheim with my parents and my older brother. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts with honours and I have just recently this year completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Museum Studies.

In my spare time, I draw and paint, and I’m usually at a concert or gig whenever I can be. I’m also interested in film, video games, music more broadly, (big Talking Heads fan) and I have recently gotten into running and ran my first and second half marathons this year.

My dream job is to be an independent artist. I would love a career where I can sustain myself through my own creative practice and contribute to the art community around me.

My favourite museum is the Tate Modern. I am a massive fan of their Turbine Hall and how the space can change through all the different exhibitions/installations held within the space. My favourite installation held in the hall was The Weather Project by Olafur Eliasson in 2003. Also, their online database helped me greatly during my time studying fine arts as it was a great way to research and discover new works and artists. I am yet to go there, but will be visiting on my solo backpacking adventure through Europe next year, (which I am very excited for!)

The biggest issue for the girls in my life is the lack of adequate care and knowledge around women’s health within our health system. Many girls aren’t taken seriously when they seek help or they’re left without clear information about their own bodies and I would love to see better education, support and clinical understanding around women’s health.

So that’s a little about me. I’m really happy to be here and excited to get involved. Thanks!
