Hi! My name is Lauren and I live in sunny Las Vegas, NV, USA! I am an avid reader, amateur novelist and music lover – I love almost every genre of music from Broadway musicals to Rock, Pop, R&B to Outlaw Country (and everything in between). My dream job would be to be an archivist (and docent) in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History or the National Museum of African American History and Culture. I spent three wonderful days in Washington, DC during spring break. It was an impromptu trip as my mother just happened to have a conference in DC during my college spring break and invited me along. I spent the entire time bouncing from one Smithsonian to the other, as they are all near one another and free to visit, and I was in heaven. Although I do have a dark, snarky sense of humor – I love to laugh and make those around me laugh as well.
The biggest issue I see facing women I know would be the risk of blindly following medical advice and not standing up for themselves when they know something is wrong or that the diagnosis is wrong. Speaking from personal experience and that of some of my close friends, we’ve each experienced a time when a doctor (usually male) ignores what we’ve told them about our ailment and was either miss-diagnosed or ignored altogether. Many of us were comfortable talking to one another about our experience and together we were able to find another medical professional who correctly diagnosed us or found the resolution ourselves. Many women believe that a medical professional knows best but, in some cases, it’s just not true and it’s important for us to feel empowered to seek another opinion or demand that the doctor re-evaluate us based on our complaint.
