The old style Barbie
When I was a little girl I must have had about 50 Barbies. I had a Barbie house, a caravan, a car and a wardrobe for them better than my own. I could easily spend the whole day playing with my Barbies – I am certain that it helped improve my imagination! But, when I was little Barbie came in only one form–the one to the left. She was blonde, tall and very slim. Naturally I do not look anything like this Barbie – never did and never will! I would have liked to have impossibly long legs like her, but it wasn’t meant to be and instead I am wonderfully petite. Now, however, a new era of Barbies has commenced.
Barbie Fashionistas are a new brand of Barbie that comes in all shapes and sizes. From petite to tall, slim to slightly larger, and to different ethnicities, Barbie is representative of real people all over the world. Finally, a Barbie that looks a little like me! According to Mattel, the range now includes 4 body types, 7 skin tones and 22 eye colours. It is frankly, refreshing to have a range of Barbies that are far more representative of real women than the Barbie range before. It’s great that finally we don’t have to play with dolls that look nothing like us and that are impossible to look like too! I only wish that they’d developed these new Barbies sooner!
