I never really watched TV as a child, instead I read. A lot. I had a lot of favourite books and characters but the one that had the biggest impact on me was Nancy Drew. The character has gone though a number of changes since the first book was published in 1930 however her core values have remained.

She is intelligent, humble and independent and she is never the damsel in distress. She travelled the world to solve mysteries which sounded like the most fantastic job in the world to me as a child (it still does). She also managed to gain the respect of law enforcement in River Heights who at first didn’t take her seriously but eventually would ask her to help them with some cases. This shows that hard work does not go unnoticed. To this day I am a huge fan of mystery and true crime thanks to Nancy Drew.
